System Administration - Fort Meade, MD - Full Time
What You Will Do:
Join Independent Software as a System Administrator, where you will provide critical support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems that underpin mission success. You will manage IT infrastructure and related processes, ensuring smooth daily operations and effective problem resolution across a variety of platforms including client/server, storage, network, and mobile devices. As a System Administrator at Independent Software, you will be responsible for managing and supporting IT system infrastructure and day-to-day operations. You will provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) through Tier 3 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution. Your work will include monitoring system performance, supporting account management, applying security patches, and maintaining system compliance. You will configure and manage UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements to improve reliability and performance. You will also communicate and coordinate with Information System Security Officers (ISSO) and Information System Owners (ISO) as part of the change and configuration management process, supporting security authorization and compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide in-depth experience troubleshooting IT systems
Manage daily configuration and operation of IT systems
Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk), Tier 2 (Escalation), and Tier 3 problem identification, diagnosis, and resolution
Deliver detailed analysis and feedback for escalated tickets to agency management and internal customers
Support dispatch system and hardware problem resolution processes and remain involved until resolution
Configure and manage UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems; install/load OS software; troubleshoot and maintain system integrity; configure network components
Implement operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance
Communicate and coordinate with ISSO and ISO regarding system changes in accordance with Change and Configuration Management processes
Support ISO by completing Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&M) milestones and coordinate completion status with ISSO to maintain security authorization records
Ensure IT assets remain compliant with Identity & Access Control Management (ICAM) policies
Apply knowledge of mission islands, Trusted Thin Client, and enhanced VDI (e.g., remote GPU and memory scaling) concepts
Optimize system operations and resource utilization, performing capacity analysis and planning
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Extensive experience troubleshooting and supporting client/server, storage, network, and mobile device environments
Proficient in configuring and managing UNIX, Linux, and Windows operating systems
xperience with Tier 1 through Tier 3 technical support and escalation processes
Strong communication skills for coordination with ISSO, ISO, management, and users
Knowledge of IT security compliance, vulnerability management, and patch application
Understanding of mission islands, Trusted Thin Client, and enhanced VDI technologies
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required; four (4) years of additional System Administrator experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree
Ten (10) years of experience as a System Administrator supporting programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required
Four (4) years of experience with Service Management (ITSM) is required
Certifications:
Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification requirements
Computing Environment (CE) Certification required. The CE certification requirements can be fulfilled with either Microsoft OS, CentOS, or Red Hat OS CE certifications
Clearance Requirement:
Must possess an active TS/SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
