As an Entry-Level Cable Technician at Independent Software, you will support the installation and maintenance of structured cabling systems in commercial and data center environments. You will work alongside experienced technicians to develop hands-on skills in cable routing, termination, testing, and documentation while ensuring quality and safety standards are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with running and installing cables for building infrastructure and equipment racks
Read and interpret drawings to determine proper cable routing and layout
Install cabling from telecommunications rooms to customer access outlets with minimal supervision
Route cables under raised floors and above ceilings using trays, baskets, and J-hooks
Terminate cabling using various connector types and standard techniques
Perform basic cable testing to ensure performance specifications are met
Label cables accurately and maintain organized documentation
Support cable management in racks, cabinets, and termination panels
Follow best practices for pathways, grounding, bonding, and firestopping
Select appropriate tools and methods for assigned cabling tasks
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Basic understanding of structured cabling systems and installation practices
Ability to read and follow technical diagrams and instructions
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Willingness to learn and follow direction from senior technicians
Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in various environments (e.g., ladders, ceilings, confined spaces
Education and Experience:
2 years of technical experience in IT cable installation and termination.
Additional two (2) years of experience may be substituted for certification.
High school diploma or equivalent required
Certifications
BICSI Installer 1 preferred but not required
