System Administration - Fort Meade, MD - Full Time

As a Level 3 System Administrator at Independent Software, you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise IT systems across multiple platforms including UNIX, Linux, and Windows. You will provide Tier 1 through Tier 3 support, resolve escalated issues, and ensure system integrity through patch management, vulnerability scanning, and compliance enforcement. You will also support architectural planning and hardware/software integration across a variety of classified and unclassified networks.
Key Responsibilities:
Support implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems
Manage the configuration and operation of client/server/storage/network infrastructure
Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk), Tier 2, and Tier 3 (Advanced Escalation) technical support
Perform user account management tasks (create, modify, disable, remove)
Conduct periodic vulnerability scans and enforce security compliance
Apply and manage IAVA security patches and record status
Monitor system performance and optimize resource utilization
Provide detailed analysis and escalation reporting to internal customers and agency leadership
Troubleshoot hardware/software issues and support dispatch systems
Configure and maintain UNIX, Linux, and Windows environments
Implement system upgrades and enhancements to improve reliability and performance
Coordinate with the ISSO and ISO to support Change and Configuration Management processes
Track and complete POA&M milestones; update records in the system of record
Ensure IT assets comply with Identity & Access Control Management (ICAM) policy
Apply knowledge of mission islands, Trusted Thin Client, and enhanced VDI technologies
Analyze and resolve complex integration issues related to hardware, applications, and SOA
Design systems and mission architecture in collaboration with engineering teams
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of UNIX, Linux, and Windows system administration
Expertise in Tier 2/Tier 3 problem diagnosis and resolution
Hands-on experience with configuration management and patch compliance
Familiarity with POA&M processes and vulnerability remediation
Experience supporting dispatch systems and resolving related hardware issues
Ability to coordinate with ISSO/ISO for system authorization and change tracking
Understanding of SOA interdependencies and mission architecture
In-depth troubleshooting of enterprise IT systems
Ability to work independently and within a team in a mission-driven environment
Understanding of mission islands, Trusted Thin Client, and enhanced VDI technologies
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required; four (4) years of additional System Administrator experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree
Fifteen (15) years of experience as a System Administrator supporting programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required
Six (6) years of experience with Service Management (ITSM) is required
Certifications:
Must meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification requirements
Computing Environment (CE) Certification required. The CE certification requirements can be fulfilled with either Microsoft OS, CentOS, or Red Hat OS CE certifications
ITIL 4 Certification
Clearance Requirement:
Must possess an active TS/SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
