Network Engineering - Annapolis Junction, MD - Full Time
What You Will Do:
At Independent Software, you will design, implement, and support enterprise network infrastructure across complex environments using Cisco and Arista technologies. As a Network Engineer Level 2, you will help optimize network performance, support secure communications, and ensure compliance with SSP and STE/STN requirements while working alongside engineering teams to maintain reliable, scalable network operations.
This role offers hands-on work with modern networking technologies, performance optimization, and infrastructure modernization initiatives. Some travel may be required, and participation in on-call operational support is expected.
Key Responsibilities:
Configure, deploy, and sustain Cisco and Arista network infrastructure
Support LAN, CAN, and WAN environments including performance optimization and troubleshooting
Apply SSP compliance and STE/STN security requirements to network devices
Design and implement network solutions including VPNs, firewalls, load balancing, VoIP, NAT, IPSec, and GRE tunneling
Monitor network performance, minimize latency, and optimize data throughput
Support network upgrades, cutovers, and infrastructure modernization efforts
Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and accreditation requirements
Collaborate with system engineers, users, and operations teams to resolve network issues
Provide guidance to junior engineers and support operational continuity
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong Cisco and Arista configuration and sustainment experience
Familiarity with LatteArt and applying SSP/STE/STN compliance requirements
Knowledge of network security, routing, switching, and performance optimization
Experience with network protocols including VPNs, VoIP, IPSec, NAT, GRE tunneling, and traffic shaping
Ability to troubleshoot complex network and infrastructure issues
Willingness to travel as needed and participate in on-call operational support
Strong collaboration and documentation skills
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, Information Security Systems Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university and ten (10) years of relevant professional experience providing Network Engineering support and training commensurate with network engineering curriculum; OR
A Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university and twelve (12) years of relevant professional Network Engineering experience; OR
Sixteen (16) years of relevant professional Network Engineering experience in lieu of a degree, along with an industry-recognized certification such as Arista Configuration Essentials, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or a Juniper Certification Track (Automation & DevOps, Cloud, Data Center, Design, Enterprise Routing and Switching, Junos Security, or Service Provider Routing and Switching).
Certifications:
DoD Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III baseline certification required in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M
Clearance Requirement:
Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
