As a Hardware Technician Level 2, you will provide advanced hands-on IT field support to ensure reliable operation of enterprise hardware, connectivity infrastructure, and end-user systems. You will support Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical troubleshooting, hardware installations, site surveys, and infrastructure maintenance across multiple customer locations. This role combines technical expertise, operational support, and customer-facing service to maintain system stability, minimize downtime, and ensure seamless technology performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support for workstations, servers, printers, peripherals, teleconferencing equipment, and network infrastructure both remotely and on-site
Troubleshoot, repair, test, and maintain hardware systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability
Conduct site surveys to assess hardware configurations, infrastructure needs, and user requirements
Prepare documentation including diagrams, configuration updates, installation plans, and technical reports
Support hardware acquisition by analyzing requirements, preparing technical specifications, and coordinating installation schedules
Install, configure, and test hardware and cabling for network upgrades and infrastructure deployments
Build and install specialized interconnecting cables as required for unique integration needs
Train end users on proper hardware usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting best practices
Maintain fiber optic modems, multiplexers, Ethernet cabling, telephone systems, and related infrastructure
Utilize ticketing systems to document incidents, track resolutions, and maintain operational transparency
Provide timely support for end-user connectivity issues and technical inquiries
Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to support projects and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Strong experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing computer hardware, peripherals, and infrastructure equipment
Experience installing Windows operating systems, applications, antivirus software, and security patches
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and configuration documentation
Familiarity with Active Directory security policies and enterprise IT environments
Experience supporting end users remotely and on-site
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and support multiple locations
Experience with fiber optic connectivity, cabling, and telecommunications infrastructure preferred
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of four (4) years of relevant IT support or hardware technician experience
Certifications:
Security+ certification strongly preferred
Additional Requirements
Ability to travel within a 5–50 mile radius of Ft. Meade / Northern Virginia region
Must be able to drive a company vehicle as required
Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs
Availability for an 8-hour shift scheduled between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM based on operational needs
Clearance Requirement:
Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
