What You Will Do
As a Senior VDI Systems Engineer with Independent Software, you will design, implement, and support complex virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI) within a large-scale enterprise environment. You will serve as a technical escalation point for advanced system and virtualization issues and play a key role in maintaining security compliance, ensuring SLA targets are met, and optimizing performance across Citrix and VMware platforms. Your contributions will directly support mission-critical systems in a dynamic, high-security environment.

As a Senior VDI Systems Engineer with Independent Software, you will design, implement, and support complex virtual desktop infrastructures (VDI) within a large-scale enterprise environment. You will serve as a technical escalation point for advanced system and virtualization issues and play a key role in maintaining security compliance, ensuring SLA targets are met, and optimizing performance across Citrix and VMware platforms. Your contributions will directly support mission-critical systems in a dynamic, high-security environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and define system architecture for new or existing computer systems within a Citrix XenDesktop and VMware ESXi environment
- Serve as an escalation point for service desk and desktop support teams, providing expert-level troubleshooting
- Drive problem resolution to root cause by collaborating with engineering teams and documenting lessons learned
- Ensure compliance with security requirements and contribute to continuous improvement of SLA performance
- Develop and apply software configuration management standards
- Perform data de-identification and provisioning tasks
- Track and document hardware/software configurations, system migrations, and deployment activities
- Provide operational support for an enterprise-scale virtual desktop infrastructure servicing hundreds of thousands of users
- Work schedule: Day shift, Monday through Friday, with on-call support as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Advanced experience with Citrix XenDesktop, Desktop Delivery Controllers (DDCs), VMware ESXi, and Microsoft Windows operating systems
- Strong background in enterprise-scale infrastructure operations
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to independently resolve complex issues
- Experience in hardware/software documentation, testing, and configuration tracking
- Ability to perform under pressure and respond quickly to critical system issues
- High attention to security compliance and operational performance metrics
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED and 19 years of relevant experience or
- Bachelor’s Degree (any field) and 14 years of relevant experience
Certifications
- CompTIA Security+ CE (to meet DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliance
- Additional Microsoft or Citrix certifications (not required but desirable)
Clearance Requirement:
- Must possess an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance to be considered for this role.
